Frequently Asked Questions

How do my drains and sewers work?

Although systems vary between cities, basically all water and wastes are carried out of your house through a series of drains. Think of these as part of your home’s disposal system. These drains lead eventually to the city sewer system where your waste is carried away along with everyone else’s to be treated and disposed of.

What could be causing the backup?

It could be any number of things, everything from cooking oils, objects thrown down the toilet by children, to tree roots. We won’t know until we have a chance to thoroughly investigate the problem, using video cameras and other technology.

Only three of the drains in my house are backed up, the rest are working. What does this mean?

Although we will need to examine your system, many times homes will have more than one branch drain leading from their house to the city sewer line. This could mean that only one of your drain pipes has a problem and not the whole house.

How can a blockage in the drain be removed?

Once again, we need to know WHAT the blockage is and WHERE it’s located before we decide the best way to solve the problem. Sometimes the fix is a simple one, other times it may involve replacing drain or sewer lines.

With a backed up sewer, should I call my plumber or the city?

It’s really up to you. However, sometimes the city will require you’ve had a plumber determine what the problem is before they will get involved. With our 40 plus years’ experience, latest equipment and technology, we can usually pinpoint your problem in a very short time. If the problem relates to the city’s system and not yours, we can tell you that too.
